Netmail and Echomail
--------------------
Echomail is a unique message system in which a user may enter a message
into a conference on this bbs. When you logoff, the bbs will attempt to call
it's "network host" system. If it gets through, it will transfer your message
over to the host who will enter the message into it's own message base and
also bundle it up to send to other systems. The message will be transferred
to the other system so that it also has the message. Echomail, therefore is
a way to enter a message into every networked system in tucson by just
entering it in to one system. Here is a diagram of the tucson area
(simplified greatly).
Davis Monthan AFB DEBUG Forum

Not-Yet-Named bbs---------UA Today----------Edge of forever
/ \
/ \
/ \
Surrealistic city One Man operation
As you can see, UA-today is the network host and all of the others are
"nodes" in the net. Now, suppose you enter a message on NYN. Here is how
it will work:
/-----> Edge of Forever
/-------> One Man operation
Not-Yet-Named bbs------> UA-Today/---------> Surrealistic city
\---------> Davis Monthan AFB
\-------> DEBUG forum
So in just a short time, you message is transferred to all of the other
networked tucson bbs systems. Now, lets say someone on Edge of Forever
replies to your message. This would happen:
/----> Not-Yet-Named bbs
/------> One Man Operation
Edge-Of-Forever--------> UA-Today/--------> Surrealistic City
\--------> Davis Monthan AFB
\-------> DEBUG forum
Now thats pretty neat, huh? But theres more. There is something called
a "national" echomail conference. National echomail conferences are like the
local ones except that mail not only goes to tucson, but to a whole bunch
of other systems. For example, suppose you enter that same message into a
national echomail conference:
Not-Yet-Named bbs-----> UA-Today/--------> All tucson nodes
\-----------------
!
!
All Phoneix nodes <---\Some bbs in phoenix <-----
--------/
!
!
-------> Some BBs in colarado /------- other bbs's in CO.
\------- Some other "host"
The same thing happens when somebody in another state sends a reply to
you message and it will end up in tucson, and at the Not-Yet-Named bbs. This
is an extremely POWERFUL way of communicating with other users -- if you have
a question/comment about something, send it in echomail, and it will be
all over the country in no-time!!!
Tucson Local Conferences
------------------------
Bitstream -- a sort of "general" message base for all tucson networked
bbs systems.
Bartertown - A local "forsale" conference. Advertise something here and it
will be all over the city in no-time!
TRPG ------- Tucson RPG - some kind of a role playing game will be going
on here, I think it is currently ADND.
TPASCAL----- The Tucson pascal programmers area.
National Echomail conferences
-----------------------------
quite a few to list -- most of them are self-explanitory.
Where to find the netmail/echomail
----------------------------------
It is called "netmail and echomail" (simple, right?) and you can find it in
the doors area. The door isn't the greatest thing you will ever get to use,
but I am working on writing a really good one in TP. (if you want to check on
the progress of the new door I am writing, look in the tucson pascla echo!)
